Clementine the Orangutan in Pictures

Clementine is a Bornean orangutan at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, born on November 28, 2023. She is the first Bornean orangutan born at the zoo in over 60 years, making her a very special addition to the zoo family. Clementine’s mother, Khali, embraced motherhood naturally and is very attentive, nursing and protecting Clementine closely. Clementine is described as sweet, tiny, and full of energy, often holding tightly to her mother as she moves through the habitat. The birth of Clementine was part of the Orangutan Species Survival Plan® (SSP), which helps ensure genetic diversity and the sustainability of this critically endangered species. Visitors to the Columbus Zoo can see Clementine and her family in the orangutan habitats in the Australia and the Islands region. Clementine’s family includes Dumplin, a much older female orangutan, and her father Sulango, who has shown interest in his daughter under the mother’s careful watch.
