Angela the Gorilla in Pictures

Angela is a female western lowland gorilla born at the Los Angeles Zoo on January 18, 2020, to her mother N’djia and silverback father Kelly. Her birth was a historic event for the zoo, as she was the first gorilla born there in over 20 years. Keepers describe her as playful, independent, and highly inquisitive, often seen exploring the Campo Gorilla Reserve and learning skills like tool use from her “Auntie” Rapunzel. She was named in honor of the late Angela Collier, a passionate animal welfare advocate whose family foundation is a longtime supporter of the zoo. She recently became a big sister in November 2025 when N’djia gave birth to a second infant, a milestone that has delighted zoo visitors.
