Ajabu the Gorilla in Pictures (Rotterdam Zoo)

Ajabu is a Western Lowland Gorilla at Rotterdam Zoo (Diergaarde Blijdorp). His birth was a surprise to zookeepers, as the mother Aya’s pregnancy was not known beforehand. Ajabu’s name means “miracle,” fitting the unexpected nature of his arrival. He is one of the youngest offspring in the gorilla family at the zoo. Rotterdam Zoo has a tradition of choosing gorilla names that start with the first letter of the mother’s name, which is why Ajabu’s name starts with “A” from Aya.
