The story of Abeo, a male Western Lowland gorilla born on June 28, 2024, at Woodland Park Zoo, is a tale of a successful fostering effort. After his mother, Akenji, failed to bond with him in Seattle, he was transferred to the Louisville Zoo where the highly experienced and nurturing foster mother Kweli readily accepted him. Abeo made his public debut with Kweli in October 2024 and is now on the path to being integrated into the larger gorilla troop, contributing to the AZA’s Gorilla Species Survival Plan.
